Custom printed mugs are one of the most popular promotional items in Pakistan — used for corporate gifting, birthday and wedding favors, office branding, and personalized presents. But not every "custom mug" shop uses the same printing process or quality of blank mug, and that difference shows up the first time it goes through a dishwasher. Here's what to actually look for.
How Custom Mugs Are Printed: Sublimation
The overwhelming majority of custom mugs in Pakistan are printed using dye-sublimation — a process where your design is printed onto special transfer paper using sublimation ink, then heat-pressed onto a coated ceramic mug at high temperature. The heat turns the ink into a gas that bonds directly into the mug's coating, so the print becomes part of the surface rather than sitting on top of it. Done properly, this produces vivid, full-color prints that survive years of dishwasher and microwave use without fading, cracking, or peeling.
The quality of the result depends heavily on the mug blank itself — a cheap, poorly coated mug will absorb the print unevenly and fade quickly no matter how good the printer is. Always ask what grade of mug blank a print shop is using.
Minimum Order Quantities
Because mug printing is a digital (sublimation) process, there's no plate setup — you can order a single custom mug, or thousands, at a linear per-unit price. That said, per-unit pricing usually drops once you cross common bulk thresholds like 25, 50, or 100 pieces, since production time per mug decreases with batch runs.
Design Tips for a Better Result
- Use high-resolution artwork — at least 300 DPI at the actual print size, to avoid a blurry or pixelated result on the curved surface.
- Account for the wrap-around curve — text and logos near the handle can look distorted; keep critical content in the central front-facing area.
- Avoid pure white backgrounds touching the mug's rim — a thin colored border often looks more finished and hides minor edge imperfections.
- Test with a single sample mug before committing to a bulk order, especially for corporate branding where color accuracy matters.
Typical Uses in Pakistan
- Corporate gifting and client appreciation mugs
- Office branding — logo mugs for staff and meeting rooms
- Wedding and event favors ("Save the Date" or couple photo mugs)
- Personalized birthday and anniversary gifts
- Cafe and restaurant branded mugs for in-house or retail use
How Long Does It Take?
Because sublimation is a digital process, most mug orders — even a single custom photo mug — are ready within 24 to 48 hours. Bulk corporate orders (100+ mugs) may need a few extra days depending on the quantity and design complexity.
